I am STONE – a direct descendant from the Big Bang and the origins of the universe.
I am the trace of p r o c e s s e s that have been going on for billions upon billions of years — and that still continue.
Did you know, for example, that I am classified by grain size?
From the smallest forms — clay, silt, sand, gravel, macadam — all the way up to the largest: Boulders!
Beautiful and mighty: Stone Boulders!
I also exist in more playful forms: Rocks and Pebbles!
And as commercial names: stone dust, pebble gravel (smoother shapes), crushed rock or macadam (more angular shapes, providing a stable structure when packed, for example in road construction).
I come with different material properties: strength and drainage capacity.
In forms such as natural stone and natural gravel — for decoration.
And crushed gravel, which we now use on sidewalks in winter instead of sand — because sand is running out worldwide.
I even exist as the less pleasant kidney stones and gallstones.
And in expressions for human states like: “stone-cold dumb,” “stone-cold fun,” or “rock-solid.”
And much, much more…!
I am, more or less, everywhere!
But our exhibition is not about all that.
It is about l a n g u a g e – our play between fantasy and reality.
About c r e a t i o n!
About p r o c e s s e s!
We tie STONE to our senses and knead it into a soft – yes, this hard and unyielding material! – and possible! – make-believe world!
Welcome!
