Somewhere beyond the open sea there is a land.
A Finnish tango about a fairytale land. It is a dream. And a hope. And a dream of hope.
There, the horizon is no longer merely a horizon, and the seashore is no longer simply a seashore, but a vision.
A vision that the world could be better over there, beyond the open sea.
And there is a land beyond which there is once again an open sea. And yet another new land.
Against this backdrop, it is hardly surprising that a Swedish gallery welcomes some twenty Finnish artists, brought across by the classic Finland ferry. Nor is it surprising that a Finnish gallery in Turku previously hosted artists from Stockholm. Brought by the sea.
Yet the message of the Finnish tango is fatefully melancholic. The singer neither flies nor rows, nor does he find his fairytale land; instead, he remains a prisoner of the earth. That was the case in the 1970s. But times change.
For twenty years, Stockholm has offered artists from all over the world a fairytale land of their own: Supermarket Independent Art Fair, the artists’ own independent art fair.
A meeting place where, in the words of the song, the most beautiful flowers radiate their splendour, and through this we all stand here on the shore of the open sea, always able to set out in search of new wonders on new shores.
Aavan meren tuolla puolen jossakin on maa.

Suomalainen tango satumaasta. Se on unelma. Ja toivo. Ja unelma toivosta.
Siinä horisonttilinja ei ole puhdas horisonttilinja eikä siinä meren ranta ola enää meren ranta Vaan näky.
Näky siitä, että maailma voisi olla parempi, siellä aavan meren tuolla puolen.
Ja siellä on maa Jonka takana on jälleen aava meri. Ja jälleen uusi maa.
Tältä pohjalta ei ole mikään ihme, että ruotsalainen galleria saa vieraakseen parisenkummentä suomalaista
taiteilijaa, klassisen finlandsfärjanin tuomina. Eikä myöskään ole ihme, että suomalaisgalleria Turussa sai
aiemmin vieraaksen tukholmalaisia taiteilijoita. Meren tuomina.
Suomalaisen tangon sisältö on kuitenkin kohtalonomaisen melankolinen. Laulaja ei lennä eikä souda eikä
löydä satumaataan vaan jää maan vangiksi. Näin 1970-luvulla. Mutta ajat muuttuvat. Tukholma on
tarjonnut kaikielle maailman taiteilijoille oman satumaansa jo kahdenkymmenen vuoden ajan:
taiteiiijoiden omat ja riippumattomat taidemessut: Supermarket Independent Art Fair.
Kohtaamispaikka, jossa laulun sanoin kukat kauneimmat luo loistettaan, ja sitä kautta me täällä olemme
kaikki aavan meren rannalla ja voimme aina lähteä tavoittelemaan uusia ihmieitä uusille rannoille.
