The word “Communication” originally comes from the Latin communis, common, via communicare, to make familiar.

Communication consists of many complex processes, often summarized with only the actual transfer, the forwarding, of information from one point to another. Communication is often seen as a two-way process where there is an exchange of thoughts, opinions, or information, regardless of whether it takes place via speech, writing or signs. The participants often have some kind of agreement about the goal, reason, and form of communication. Communication is studied, among other things, in the fields of sociology, linguistics and media, and communication science. But of course, it can be one-sided as we are influenced by what we read, see and listen to. In addition, in our world it often feels like information is misinterpreted – errors are communicated.

In an ever-changing world, we strive to share our thoughts and feelings in search of our own kind, despite the sudden obstacles that arise.

The exhibition Communication was created almost two years ago and despite the changed conditions, or thanks to them, has acquired a special meaning for the project’s participants and has unexpectedly changed the form of implementation.

14 members of Stockholm’s independent artist-run collective STUDIO44 and 27 members of the independent artist association “Parasite” exchange exhibitions under the common name “Communication”, with an unusual and unexpected artistic practice in the creation of art:

The artists were placed in predetermined constellations and have since created art based solely on verbal or written descriptions and possible sketches of works conveyed by their counterpart. The result is not predictable in advance. The language barrier also becomes a factor to be reckoned with and how we interpret information based on different cultural perspectives.

Galleriet Borey is hospitable to Swedish artists for the St. Petersburg part of the project, which will run from 5 to 27 August 2022.

In Sweden, the exhibition will be held in Studio44’s gallery from September 6-25, 2022
